Part 1 More Than Conquerors What Is
Introduction: Romans 8:35-39
- Define what it means to be more than conquerors.
- Highlight that victory is not just about overcoming but about living in a state of continual triumph through Christ.
- Emphasize that our victory is rooted in God’s love, not our own strength.
I. The Source of Our Victory
A. Through Christ
- John 16:33 – “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
- Victory is not self-achieved but received through love and obedience to Jesus Christ.
- Jesus has already conquered sin, death, and the grave.
B. The Love of God Secures Our Triumph
- Romans 8:35-39 – Nothing can separate us from His love, and that love guarantees our victory.
- Our triumph is conditional; it is secured in His unchanging love.
- He has done and continues to do his part, but we have to do our part. None of the things Paul lists can separate us, unless we allow them to. The only thing he does not list is ourselves.
- Our triumph or victory is ONLY secure in us remaining faithful to God unto death.
II. Characteristics of Those Who Are More Than Conquerors
A. Conquerors Walk by Faith, Not by Sight
- 2 Corinthians 5:7 – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
- Faith enables us to claim victory even before we see it.
- Example: David defeated Goliath through faith in God, not his own ability (1 Samuel 17:45-47). David still had to sling the stone and wield the sword.
- “Not by sight” does not be mean we fumble around in the darkness hoping that God will take care of us. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” -KJV “ Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen.” -ASV 1901
- Now couple that with what the Hebrew writer says a few verses later in vs. 6 “ But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Faith is belief coupled with action (read all of Heb. 11) or obedient faith.
- James 1:23-27
- i.e. we obey God and diligently seek Him, BECAUSE we have true faith and hope that He will care for us and keep His promises.
B. Conquerors Endure Hardships with Confidence
- 2 Timothy 2:3 – “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”
- Tribulations are temporary, but our victory is eternal (if we remain faithful).
- Paul’s life as an example (2 Corinthians 11:23-ff).
C. Conquerors Overcome by the Word and Testimony
- Revelation 12:11 – “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.”
- Victory comes through being obedient to God’s Will and His Word through being washed in the blood first and then continuing to walk in the light of the gospel.
- The word testimony is a legal term, meaning to witness. We have witnessed nothing of the true power of God like the ones we can read about in the Bible. We believe their testimony, their witness. Jesus tells Thomas to see and touch his wounds. John 20:29 “Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
- We believe in part because of the witness of others that was left behind in the Word. Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, hearing by the Word of God.”
III. The Lifestyle of a Conqueror
A. Putting on the Whole Armor of God
- Ephesians 6:11 – “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
- Spiritual armor equips us for continual victory.
B. Abiding in Christ Daily
- John 15:5 – “I am the vine, ye are the branches… for without me ye can do nothing.”
- Staying connected to the blood of Jesus ensures we walk in victory. I John 1:7

Conclusion:
Are you willing to be More Than a Conqueror? Are you willing to fight in the Lord’s army, daily? Our reward will not come until Judgement Day, whether good or evil. Are you prepared for that reward? (Col. 3:24-25)
If you are and you need to be enlisted, if you will, then God has some commands to be obeyed in order to do so:
- Hear the Word of God and Believe it. (Romans 10:17)
- Repent of your sins (make the decision to turn from them and follow Christ). (Acts 17:30)
- Confess your faith before men and be willing to continue to do this from now on, even in the face of persecution and death. (Matt. 10:32, Acts 8, and Rom. 10:9)
- Be immersed in water [baptism] (Mark 16:16, Acts 8)
- Live faithful unto death (Rev. 2:10)
