God'S Word Is Greater
Introduction: Scripture Reading- II Pet. 3:14-18
- Online article: 18 Things People Think Are Forbidden in the Bible But Aren’t
- About the text: Peter said the many even in the 1st Century were unlearned and twisted words of Paul’s letters from the Holy Spirit. He didn’t want Christians to be that way. (vs. 17) We are suppose to know these things and not be led away. We need to study and stand firm on God’s Word and trust it more than anything man says.
- Let us have a sincere heart when we study and remember that this is God’s Word, meaning He spoke it, all man did was write it down and we are intended to obey it if we want to get to heaven. Men are going to teach us contrary things to suit their own will.
Discussion:
- Getting a Divorce Non-Adulterous Reasons
- “Matthew 19:9 provides an exception for divorce in the case of sexual immorality, but this does not cover all possible scenarios. Jesus mentioned that Moses permitted divorce because of the hardness of people’s hearts, suggesting a concession rather than a command. Many churches recognize other serious circumstances, such as abuse, as valid reasons for divorce, seeking to balance justice, mercy, and restoration.”
- Matt. 19:1-9 this is not an exception, what does Jesus say?
- Mark 10:1-12
- Remarriage After Divorce
- “While Jesus speaks against divorce and remarriage in some contexts, the New Testament also addresses the reality of remarriage in a fallen world. The gospel message is one of grace, forgiveness, and new beginnings. Different Christian traditions interpret these teachings in various ways, often allowing for remarriage under certain conditions.”
- I Cor. 7:1-5 Keep the relationship of husband and wife in the bedroom to avoid temptation of the Devil from outside the bedroom.
- I Cor. 7:10-11Two Christians having problems
- I Cor. 7:12-16 One Christian and one unbelieving spouse having problems
- Women Speaking in the Church
- “1 Corinthians 14:34–35’s context suggests it addressed specific issues in the Corinthian church, not a universal rule. The instruction was likely addressing disorderly conduct in worship, not a blanket prohibition. Women like Priscilla were active in early Christian ministry, indicating diverse roles were accepted.”
- I Tim. 2:1-15 Paul was writing to an individual to teach to all and not to one specific congregation.
- Acts 18:24-28 at the beginning of 18, learned the gospel from Paul (Rom. 16:3; I Cor. 16:19- helpers of Paul in the gospel) [vs. 26 akribesteron- perfectly, more completely, or more precisely]
- Titus 2:1-5 This is what Aquila and Priscilla exemplified.
Conclusion:
- It is God’s Word and not mans. I Pet. 4:11 “If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God,”
- Matt. 4:4 “It is written, Man shall not live by bread allow, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” II Tim. 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect (artios- complete), throughly furnished unto all good works.”
- I Cor. 2:1-16
