Scripture Reading- Hebrews 1:1-8
This morning we will continue the series on authority. Last time we covered the basis of authority as being expressed through the Law, through the Sovereignty of God, and by the right of Creation. Today we may only have a singular point, but it is a good one I assure you. Throughout the lesson we will continually see the word “power” in most cases it is referring to authority. Keep that in y’all’s back pocket if you would.
A. As being a part of the Godhead, Christ has all the same rights to authority by means of creation and sovereignty as the Father, however seeing as in he humbled himself to the form of a lowly Man we shall show proof of work. Showing the Authority through him.
1. Matthew 28:16-20
a. Here we read Christ plainly telling the 11 that he has authority and then issues the command of the great commission. We can see this same event likewise in
2. Mark 16:14-20
a. Both times he establishes himself as authority, as they shall spread the gospel in his name, and by certain signs and wonders, supernatural miracles, they shall be known to be his followers.
3. Ephesians 1:15-22
4. Philippians 2:5-11
B. These are similar passages in the way of the message being carried, The Father has established The Son as his Right hand man, he has given him all power or that is to say all authority over creation and all that wherein. That we shall bow and confess, everyone one us, in Christ's name when the appointed time arrives. We should have the mind of Christ, the willingness of Christ, that he would be obedient even to the death of self; this ties back into an old sermon of mine and how we should be reflections of Christ, reflecting his wisdom and righteousness.
Alright we are about to deep dive into a lengthy passage so buckle up
C. John 5:16-47
1. Here we read that Christ was sent by the Father and is established by the Father, that it is his ,Christ’s, authority by which we shall be judged; that it is by him that should we honor we shall be spared from the judgment of damnation. He then furthers his reasoning with the teachers and Pharisees by highlighting how he doesn’t just do these things, he obviously is being given the power to do so by a higher power, the Father. We also can read how he was borne witness of by a respected prophet. Elsewhere in scripture we see that he is accused of being Devil Spawn, performing miracles against Satan in the name Satan, and Christ quickly shoots the idea down using logic and common sense by asking, what’s the point of operating against the supposed authority by which my authority would be derived?
D. Colossians 2:5-15
1. Here we read a similar passage that we read in Ephesians and Phillipians, with a slight twist, we are made whole, and fulfilled when we are in obedience to Christ, as through Christ we are obedient to the Father. Through the faith of the operation of God are we made just, or righteous, by way of the blood of Christ. If Christ was not of an authority that has weight behind, how would we then be saved?
E. Hebrews 1-8
1. Here we read the Father sets Christ up as the new principal power or authority of Creation. Establishing Christ as the highest power exception of self, in all of Heaven and Earth and of that wherein. This section also re-establishes the Godhead, as in verse 8 we read the Father addresses the Son and refers to him as “God” the Greek word “Theos” meaning Godhead in this context.
A. Galatians 3:22-29
1. As read in Verse 22 all are under the judgment of sin, saved and unsaved will be under scrutiny, it is only through the faith of Christ that we will be taken up as heirs of salvation. As read in verse 29 “IF” we are Christ's we will be inheritors of salvation. Leave no room ifs. Every interaction we have outside of The Faith is an opportunity to add to the Church, an opportunity to send out an invitation to know the Father through the Son or at the least plant the seeds for another to water; it is selfish to have access to life everlasting and then pull up the ladder behind you.
